6 Rules for Fitting Selection

Follow these principles every time, they prevent the most common and costly mistakes.

1

Match the pressure rating

Every fitting in the system must be rated at or above the maximum system pressure, including surge spikes.

2

Match the thread type on both ends

Confirm the port, hose, or tube thread type before ordering. A wrong adapter is worse than no adapter.

3

Match the material to the fluid

Brass for water/air/low-pressure hydraulics. Carbon steel for high-pressure oil. Stainless for corrosive environments or food-grade.

4

Use the correct seal method

Thread-sealing types (NPT/BSPT) need sealant. Face-seal types (ORFS) need O-rings. JIC relies on metal-to-metal, no sealant.

5

Size for flow, not just thread size

A 1/2" thread fitting may have different bore sizes. Undersized bore causes pressure drop, heat, and cavitation.

6

Account for vibration and movement

Rigid fittings on vibrating equipment will crack. Use flexible hose assemblies to absorb movement.

We Stock Cross Fittings

Most JIC-to-NPT, ORFS-to-JIC, and Metric-to-SAE adapters are on our shelf. Same-day availability for most combinations.

Custom Assembly Available

We fabricate hose assemblies to your spec with any end configuration. Bring your old hose or measurements and we'll build it while you wait.
